Two Men Charged in String of Kensington Armed Robberies

Alvin Chun, 64, and Ronald Wesley Johnson, 62, are in police custody after carrying out a string of armed bank robberies across Kensington.

According to the a Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) press release, the first of these robberies took place the morning of Feb. 1, where ‘a suspect’ entered the Montgomery Avenue M&T Bank. He showed a revolver to a teller and gave a note demanding money. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect left the bank.

Six days later, at the Connecticut Avenue Capital One Bank, ‘a suspect,’ armed with a revolver, brandished the weapon and demanded money. They left in a U-Haul with an undisclosed amount of money.

A third robbery took place on March 18, where ‘a suspect’ entered the same Montgomery Avenue M&T bank, held an employee at gunpoint, and went into the vault room. Again, the suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

Chun, arrested last Thursday, is charged with first-degree assault, three counts of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime. He currently awaits extradition at the D.C. Central Detention Facility.

Johnson, arrested in April, is charged with first-degree assault, two counts each of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime. He is being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bond.

According to the press release, police have been able to link both suspects to criminal investigations in other jurisdictions.
