Gallery B Presents "Color + Light, Part Two"
August 2, 2026 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Gallery B, 7700 Wisconsin Ave E, Bethesda, MD 20814, USA
| Painters Kathleen Byrnes and Jennifer Howard exhibit their works at Gallery B in November 2025
Kathleen Byrnes has taken to working plein aire, challenging her to work quickly and spontaneously. Byrnes uses the environment to infuse the canvas with mood and emotion. Working in predominantly oil, Byrnes has produced works that explore the light and structure of urban Washington DC, the Virginia and Maryland country side, as well as the inlets, bay, ocean and marshlands of Southern New Jersey. Jennifer Howard is a painter and graphic designer who has lived and worked in Washington, DC for over 37 years. Her paintings are about the moment, the immediacy of paint applied honestly, thickly and emotionally on canvas. She strives to convey a textural quality to the surface with layers of color and an emphasis on capturing light.
The exhibition runs from November 6 – November 30. Gallery hours are Thursdays-Saturdays, 12-5pm, and Sundays 11am-2pm. The gallery will be closed November 27-28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

August 4, 2026 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The documentary treatment is an essential part of the development process for a documentary. It visualizes your documentary in written form. It helps to get your ideas on the page, working through potential themes, characters and story angles.
This workshop focuses on writing a treatment, the narrative blueprint for your film. Exercises will bring out your approach and the story's direction and sharpen research for the story you're telling. We will also do exercises that explore your main characters and scene visualization. We conclude with a brief look at loglines that can help crystallize your story.

My Name is Not Tom
August 5, 2026 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
29 Courthouse Square, 29 Courthouse Sq Rm 110, Rockville, MD 20850, USA
A biography digging deeper in to the story of Josiah Henson, restoring to history his role in the Underground Railroad
From the plantation fields of Maryland, to the Georgetown Market, to the plantations of Kentucky; escaping to freedom in Canada, and being introduced to the Queen in England, Josiah Henson led a fascinating life. Born enslaved, Henson eventually escaped and became a respected minister and famed secular leader.
“My Name Is Not Tom” is a biography of Josiah Henson, the man catapulted into fame after Harriet Beecher Stowe noted that events in his life partially influenced the development of her fictional character, Uncle Tom. While previous biographies have relied heavily on Henson's four autobiographies (dictated under duress), which replicated the myth that he was the sole inspiration for Stowe’s character, "My Name is Not Tom" uses novel primary source research to fill in the untold parts of his extraordinary life. The author examines Henson's views of slavery and morality, which changed substantially over the course of his life.
Seating is limited.

Gallery B Presents "Color + Light, Part Two"
Gallery B Presents "Color + Light, Part Two"
August 30, 2026 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
