Gallery B Presents "Color + Light, Part Two"
September 6, 2026 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Gallery B, 7700 Wisconsin Ave E, Bethesda, MD 20814, USA
| Painters Kathleen Byrnes and Jennifer Howard exhibit their works at Gallery B in November 2025
Kathleen Byrnes has taken to working plein aire, challenging her to work quickly and spontaneously. Byrnes uses the environment to infuse the canvas with mood and emotion. Working in predominantly oil, Byrnes has produced works that explore the light and structure of urban Washington DC, the Virginia and Maryland country side, as well as the inlets, bay, ocean and marshlands of Southern New Jersey. Jennifer Howard is a painter and graphic designer who has lived and worked in Washington, DC for over 37 years. Her paintings are about the moment, the immediacy of paint applied honestly, thickly and emotionally on canvas. She strives to convey a textural quality to the surface with layers of color and an emphasis on capturing light.
The exhibition runs from November 6 – November 30. Gallery hours are Thursdays-Saturdays, 12-5pm, and Sundays 11am-2pm. The gallery will be closed November 27-28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Alfred Yun at the Silver Spring Jazz Festival
September 12, 2026 4:15 pm - 4:50 pm

Alfred Yun is a Korean-American jazz pianist and composer. His music is influenced by his upbringing in both Korea and the United States. You can hear influences ranging from jazz, hip hop, and K-Pop to traditional Korean music in Alfred Yun’s compositions.
Alfred was honored to be chosen by the Music Center At Strathmore as an Artist-in-Residence for the 2023-2024 season. This includes featured concerts at Strathmore’s prestigious AMP club in January and participating in programs throughout the season. In 2026, Alfred Yun was selected to be part of the Jazz and Sonic Arts: Improvised Music Residency at the Banff Centre for Art and Creativity.
In 2025, Alfred Yun released his album, Voice and Phenomenon, which investigates the different ways we use the voice — gibberish, games, poems, singing, spoken word, laughter, and more. The album invites the listener into an intimate account of these disparate voices and sounds. It is the most personal and revealing work of his career. Voice and Phenomenon was listed on Capital Bop's Top DC Jazz Albums of 2025.

Docs In Progress, 8560 Second Avenue, Entrance on, Apple Ave Suite 113, Silver Spring, MD 20910, USA
Get a sneak peek at a near-completed feature film! This Work In Progress screening is a crucial test run for the filmmaker, who is looking for honest feedback from a fresh audience to see what works, and what needs a final polish before the picture lock. The filmmakers will be in attendance.
WORK IN PROGRESS FILM:
THE LUTHIER: The Ballad of Amnon Weinstein by Jon Adelman and Justin Toops
The film explores lyrically a master craftsman’s lifelong dedication to restoring violins, including the world famous collection of Holocaust violins known as the Violins of Hope. The collection would become his passion, his obsession, and ultimately his legacy.
ABOUT WORK IN PROGRESS SCREENINGS
Launched in May 2004, the Work In Progress screening program is Docs In Progress' flagship initiative, inviting audiences directly into the creative process. By providing critical rough-cut feedback to more than 150 filmmakers, this program has fueled community connection and helped independent films cross the finish line. From these screenings, our alumni have catapulted onto the global stage, earning national broadcasts, headlining major festivals, and capturing prestigious accolades like the Peabody, Emmy, and spots on the Oscar Shortlist.

Open Doors: Exploring the Homes of Historic North Woodside
Open Doors: Exploring the Homes of Historic North Woodside
September 26, 2026 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Woodlin Elementary School, 2101 Luzerne Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910, USA
Historic Homes, Bungalows Feature in Silver Spring House Tour
A house built in 1912 whose physician owners helped battle the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic and whose daughter-in-law drove a milk cart. A verified Sears kit house. Two 1920s Craftsman bungalows. And two houses dating to the 1890s.
North Woodside’s House Tour, scheduled for Saturday, September 26, will offer plenty of history along with architectural variety and some lessons in how to restore and update older homes.
The 11 houses on the tour range in age from an 1894 Shingle-style house to a 1949 rambler, and include a 1902 property that was the original site of Elk Run Vineyards, which moved in 1979 to Mt. Airy, Maryland. The neighborhood, which sits roughly south of the I-495 beltway, where 16th street meets Georgia Avenue, sheltered a few summer homes between orchards and fields until the early 1900s when developers jumped on an opportunity to build homes for government workers in Silver Spring, promoting the location outside of but still convenient to Washington, DC.
Many government workers still own the mix of Tudors, Colonial Revivals, Dutch Colonials, Craftsman bungalows, American Foursquares, English cottages and other styles of house that went up. Most have been expanded from their original modest floorplans while keeping the quirky details that make these homes so desirable. The tour is a rare chance to see inside some of these historic homes.
The neighborhood is known for an annual winter holiday celebration that will mark its 100th anniversary this December, as well as for the annual Talbot Bridge Lantern Walk, co-celebrated with neighboring Lyttonsville, a historically Black community founded in 1853, an event that acknowledges past divisions and ongoing work toward new understanding by crossing the bridge over the rail tracks that separate them.
Funds raised by the House Tour will support new native plant gardens and educational signage in a traffic island at the heart of the neighborhood where the annual holiday celebration is held, and contribute to the future Linden-Lyttonsville Museum.
Tickets on sale now: $30 when purchased in advance; $40 on the day of the tour.
Printed booklets available for $10 pre-order through Labor Day; a limited number will be available for $12 on the day of the tour.

Gallery B Presents "Color + Light, Part Two"
September 27, 2026 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
