This week, the state of Maryland topped the list when it comes to federal job loss.
So far 12,700 Marylanders have lost their government employment, according to the Office of the State Comptroller. And that staggering number does not include federal contractors.

In June, Comptroller Brooke Lierman issued a report conducted with the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business in College Park. It referred to the federal government as the state’s “economic engine”.
Nearly 230,000 Marylanders work for the federal government. According to the report, that adds up to 6% of the workforce and accounts for $27 billion in wages.
