Around 8:35 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, Montgomery County Police and Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a collision involving two vehicles at Sam Eig Highway and Fields Road in Gaithersburg. According to a press release, a Jeep Compass struck a Toyota Corolla. Both drivers remained on the scene.
A passenger in the Carolla was critically injured and hospitalized for life threatening injuries. The driver, an adult woman, was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.
Fields Road was closed temporarily for reconstruction as police and emergency services responded to the scene. At 11:17 a.m., police reopened the road to eastbound and westbound traffic but diverted traffic incoming from I-270 and I-370 to nearby Washingtonian Boulevard.
