5 Cars Damaged in Downtown Silver Spring Garage Fire

Five cars have been damaged in a Silver Spring garage fire, according to Montgomery County and Fire Rescue Service Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., about 50 firefighters were on scene battling a fire in an eight-story parking garage on Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street. Piringer reported that several vehicles were on fire and that smoke and fire were evident.

The fire was declared “under control” at approximately 1:45 p.m., Piringer said. There were no injuries reported but several nearby streets were closed.

Loyalty Books, located in the 800 block of Ellsworth Drive, said that their Silver Spring location would be closed for the remainder of the day due to the fire on the block. “We are all okay and waiting on details. Praying no one was hurt,” the store said in a tweet. They expect to be open for normal hours tomorrow, Saturday Feb. 5.
