The 74th Montgomery County Agricultural Fair comes to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg August 11-19 and MCM has 5 things to do if you decide to visit:

  1. Agriculture: I mean, it is an agricultural fair after all, so you have to take this opportunity to learn about animals and farming. While at the fair you can visit the KidZone, Master Gardeners & Farmers Triangle, the Honey Bee Demonstrations, and Abracadabra. Animals you can expect to see are cows, pigs, goats, chickens, and more.
  2. Food: What’s a fair without food? The Ag Fair has plenty of delicious options for you to enjoy. Of course they have all of the staples, such as funnel cake, ice cream, and corndogs.  There’s also a wide variety of diverse food such as Mexican, Italian, Greek, and more. But if you want a special treat, you have to try The BIG Cheese. It’s located next to Old Mac Donald’s Barn. This year they are trying to break last year’s record of selling 10,000 Gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches.
  3. Rides: From the Alien Abduction to Ferris Wheel, the fair has over 40 different rides for all ages to enjoy. Some other mentionable rides include the Balloon Fiesta, F5, Khaos, and Sizzler. Each ride has specific ticket and height requirements.

  4. Music on Maple: On Tuesday, August 15, you can enjoy the Grand Rental Events Music on Maple featuring the Grasso Brothers. It’s free and beer, wine, and spirits will be on sale. The show is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Upper Grounds, near Lone Oak Brewing Grapes and Grain Garden.
  5. Demolition Derby: The last two days of the fair feature the Demolition Derby. Drivers compete against each other by ramming their vehicles into one another. The last driver whose vehicle is still operational is awarded the victory. The competitions begin 7:30 p.m. on August 18 and 19.
