5 Things to Know Today, April 1, In Montgomery County

Happy April Fools Day! It’s Friday, April 1 and here are five things worth knowing in Montgomery County.

1. Thursday Weather: Severe thunderstorms capable of causing tornadoes moved through the area Thursday evening. The Washington Post reported possible brief tornado touchdowns near Centreville and in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

2. Early Release Day: Today Montgomery County Public Schools close two hours early.

3. Silver Spring and Wheaton Street Parking:  The hours drivers must pay for street parking in Silver Spring and Wheaton extend starting today.

4. Business Spotlight: Councilmember Sidney Katz continues his series of virtual conversations about local businesses today at 12:30 p.m. His guest is the chef and owner of El Mercat Bar de Tapas restaurant in downtown Rockville. Register online for the event, here.

El Mercat opened in downtown Rockville in January and was featured in County Cable Montgomery’s Made in Montgomery series.

5. COVID-19 Vaccinations and Boosters Available: County-run clinics provide second COVID-19 booster shots as recommended by the FDA and CDC. The county recommends residents make an appointment through the COVID-19 Information Portal.

And One More Thing:  Check out the cherry blossom trees at the South Germantown Recreational Park Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
