5 Things to Know Today, April 1, In Montgomery County

1. National Public Health Week: The county observes the week with daily social media posts and four community events, including a talk about cultivating health through gardening, a zip code and equity report presentation, a conversation on climate change with youth and a discussion about the intersection of community risk reduction and public health.

2. Council President Briefing: Council President Andrew Friedson’s weekly media briefing is scheduled today at 11:30 a.m. Friedson is expected to discuss several issues that the Council will take up on Tuesday, including the public hearing on the $20 million J.O.B.S. (Jobs, Opportunities and Business Support) Initiative. and answer questions from the media. Watch today’s briefing on the Council’s Facebook page here.

3. Choose Respect: County teens are encouraged to take part in MCPS’ RespectFEST event which kicks off today with online activities and workshops that culminates in an in-person gathering at Wheaton Recreation Center on April 7 from 1-4 p.m. Students may earn up to eight SSL hours for participation in the activities.

4. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The public may join the meeting in person or virtually. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet next Monday, April 8 at 7 p.m. with this agenda.
