5 Things to Know Today, April 29, In Montgomery County

1. Council President Briefing: Council President Andrew Friedson’s weekly media briefing is scheduled today at 12:30 p.m. Friedson will introduce the Council’s new Executive Director Caven West who started on April 22. Marlene Michaelson, the Council’s outgoing Executive Director will also join the briefing. Watch today’s briefing on the Council’s Facebook page here.

2. Council Meetings:  Committees continue to review operating budgets for multiple departments and non-departmental accounts today. Committee meetings are televised live on County Cable Montgomery or streamed live at http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council/ondemand/index.html. Videos are archived and available 24 hours after each meeting concludes.

3. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council will not meet again until Monday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 6 p.m. Find the meeting agenda online.

4. Women in The Workplace Career Series: The Commission on Women offers a series of virtual workshops on topics including preparing a resume, tips for networking, creating an elevator pitch, interview best practices, and wage negotiation. The first session on interviewing skills is scheduled today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Workshops are free, registration is required. Learn more and register here.

5. ICYMI: Students at Northwood High School walked out of class recently in protest after learning they will not have an auditorium or playing fields for two or three years.
