5 Things to Know Today, April 8, In Montgomery County

1. Solar Eclipse: View the Solar Eclipse at Gaithersburg’s Observatory Park today from 2-4:30 p.m. The event includes hands-on activities and free solar glasses while supplies last. Registration is required, learn more here.

2. Council President Briefing: Council President Andrew Friedson’s weekly media briefing is scheduled today at noon.  Friedson is expected to discuss the Council’s review process for the FY25 Operating Budget as well as bills the Council passed last week. 3. Federal Tax Return Assistance: The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program provides free tax assistance for those with household incomes of $64,000 or less through April 11. Appointments are available in Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, Rockville, and virtually.

4. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet for a budget work session at 7:30 p.m. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. Find the meeting agenda online. The public may join both meeting in person or virtually.

5. Poolesville High School: The more than 100-year-old Poolesville High School opened some new classrooms for its students last week. Take a look:
