Program Offers Free Tax Support for Households Earning Less Than $64,000

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is offering free tax assistance for those with household incomes of $64,000 or less.

The program seeks to provide residents with free tax preparation help from qualified preparers, per a Montgomery County news release.

Eligible residents should call 240-777-1123 to schedule an appointment or visit the CASHBACK website.  The website also includes information about other free tax sites, tax credits and financial resources.

From Jan. 22 through April 11, individuals can set up an appointment at four locations:

Mondays, 2:30-8 p.m.
Casey Community Center
810 South Frederick Avenue
Gaithersburg

Tuesdays, 2-8 p.m.
TESS Community Action Center
8730 Flower Avenue
Silver Spring

Tuesdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Community Action Agency
1401 Rockville Pike
Rockville

Wednesdays, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
Community Action Agency

Fridays, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Other VITA information for the program:

  • All VITA sites serve taxpayers filing with Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN). Any resident that needs help obtaining an ITIN can reach out on Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Certified tax preparers complete and file taxes for free.
  • Appointments are available to prepare federal and state as well as amended returns for 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
