5 Things to Know Today, April 9, In Montgomery County

It’s Tuesday, April 9, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County. Check the weather forecast here.

1. Eid-al-Fitr:  This evening marks the end of Ramadan, which is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide with fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.

2. County Council: The Montgomery County Council will meet at 9 a.m. The meeting will begin with two proclamations recognizing National Public Health Week by Councilmember Gabe Albornoz and the second will celebrate Fenley Scurlock and Jason Liaw by Councilmember Evan Glass. The Council receives an overview of the proposed $7.1 billion budget and begins public hearings.

3. MCPS “Grow Your Own” Career Day: Schools are closed Wednesday, April 10 for the end of the marking period. High school students can learn about job opportunities and careers at the MCPS job fair at Northwest High School from 9 a.m. to noon.

4. Pedestrian Safety: The county’s Pedestrian Safety Team will be at Ellsworth Place in downtown Silver Spring at 4 p.m. to promote pedestrian, driving, and bike safety to Montgomery County residents. Visit the MCDOT table at the Level 2 mall entrance near Ben and Jerry’s and Kung Fu Tea for free giveaways and learn more about the safety programs.

5. Solar Eclipse: Our area reached maximum viewing for the solar eclipse Monday at 3:20 p.m. and while we were not in the path of a total eclipse, residents could still put on special glasses and catch a glimpse.
