1. ‘We Cannot Let This Shutdown Break Us’: With a federal government shutdown in effect, leaders — including U.S. Rep. April McClain Delaney (MD-District 6) and members of the Democratic Women’s Caucus — went on a tour in Germantown at the Upcounty Regional Services Center, a local one-stop shop for assistance with things like healthcare and food.

2. Hispanic Heritage Month: The Montgomery County Council celebrated its 12th annual Hispanic Heritage Month commemoration on Tuesday. This year’s commemoration included a musical performance by local folkloric dance group Corazón Folklórico Dance Company, a special video program, and a Council proclamation.

3. Maryland Democrats Call Shutdown Avoidable, Unnecessary: A group of Democratic legislators in Annapolis and Washington, known as Team Maryland, called the government shutdown “avoidable” and “unnecessary” and announced ways they plan to help federal workers and other residents who are impacted.

4. Donate a Bike: Donate a bike today between 7 a.m.-2 p.m. at the County Council Office Building Parking Garage in Rockville, at the corner of East Jefferson and Monroe streets. The bikes will be refurbished and given to low-income residents.

5. ICYMI: new system for speed camera fines went into effect starting Wednesday, Oct 1. Fees will increase the faster a driver goes by a speed camera in Maryland.
