6th Annual Girl Power Contests Opens March 1

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Montgomery County Commission for Women, Montgomery County Public Libraries and Friends of the Library, Montgomery County are holding their sixth annual Girl Power Contest.

This year’s theme is inspired by Montgomery County Council’s first female-majority council, elected in 2022.

“We now have six women on the Montgomery County Council,” the prompt reads. “What advice would you give them to make sure our community is a place where women and girls can feel safe and encouraged?”

Starting March 1, County residents ages five and up can submit a short story, poem, drawing or an entry in a medium of their choice in the contest. Entries must address this year’s theme. Winners will be chosen in four categories, elementary school, middle school, high school and adult.

Entries are limited to one per person and must include your full name, age, grade and school. Work submitted by minors must include written permission from a parent or guardian. There is a 500 word maximum for written submissions.

The deadline for submissions is March 31 and winners will be announced in April. Winners will be featured on the Commission for Women’s social media and receive a prize.

Entries are submitted online using this form. For more information, visit the Commission for Women’s website.
