The threat of rain didn’t keep people from the 10th annual Montgomery Community Green Fest at the Marian Fryer Plaza in Wheaton on Saturday.
Participants learned about composting, recycling, electric vehicles and planting. They participated in ecofriendly events and walked away with lots of free items.
“I think this is the most important work we are going to be doing,” declared County Executive Marc Elrich. “Us older persons are dumping this incredible mess on younger people. We need to think generations ahead.”
Added Councilmember Natali Fani-González, “It takes a village to really be sustainable.”
GreenFest 2025 honored local environmental heroes with the Eco Hero awards. The winners were:
Individual Award – Carolyn Gupta of Silver Spring
Individual Award – Carmen Hernandez
Nonprofit Award – Charles Koiner Conservancy for Urban Farming in Silver Spring
Business Award – Gardenology in Chevy Chase one
