Touch, Climb and Explore Trucks at MCDOT’s Free Rockville Event Saturday

Families can touch, climb and explore county vehicles during MCDOT’s free Truck Day on Saturday, May 17, in Rockville. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Truck Depot and Salt Barn, 17000 Crabbs Branch Way, and kicks off National Public Works Week.

Children and families can explore about a dozen MCDOT vehicles, including a bucket truck, bus, semi-truck and tractor. First responder vehicles and a fire engine also will be on site. Attendees can meet the operators and learn about their work. MCDOT Highway Services employees will answer questions and explain how the vehicles serve the community.

The event will feature entries in the annual “Paint the Plow” contest. Eleven middle schools decorated snowplows and created names for them. Visitors can vote on their favorite design. The top three schools will receive cash prizes. The contest snowplows are used during snowstorms across the county in winter.

National Public Works Week runs from May 18-24. This year’s theme is “People, Purpose, Presence.”

MCDOT also will launch a social media campaign spotlighting Highway Services employees and their essential roles.
