Council Vice President Will Jawando declared his candidacy for the office of County Executive at a fund-raising event in Silver Spring on Wednesday evening.
Supporters gathered at Citizens & Culture on Georgia Avenue to hear his message. Here is part of what is posted on his campaign website:
“…I believe our community can be a light in these challenging times. We have an opportunity to reject divisiveness and show Donald Trump, and the country, what compassionate leadership looks like.
We are at a turning point – and this moment demands bold and courageous leadership. That’s why I’m running for County Executive.”
Colleagues in county government attended the launch including County Executive Marc Elrich and At Large Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles.
Jawando joins fellow Councilmember Evan Glass and independent candidate Celeste Iroha in the race for County Executive.
