Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission Chair Announces Retirement

Edward H. Kaplan announced his retirement as the Commission Chair of Maryland Public Broadcasting after 18 years in the position.

Governor Wes Moore selected current Vice Chair Richard J. Bordoff to take over the role.

Kaplan, a Potomac resident with a career background in business and real estate development, began working with Maryland Public Television (MPT) in 1996. He oversaw operations such as the network’s switch to digital broadcasting and the introduction of MPT Passport video streaming.

During his time at MPT, Kaplan and his wife Irene became the station’s largest donors. In 2019, the network named a production center after them to honor their contributions.

Kaplan’s retirement coincides with that of MPT President and CEO Larry D. Unger. Both men will vacate their positions on June 30.
