Hourly Minimum Wage Increase Effective Tuesday

On July 1, the minimum wage will increase by 50 cents for workers across Montgomery County.

In a statement on their website, the Office of Human Rights outlined the wage adjustments, which adjust every year on July 1:

  • Large companies (51 or more employees) must pay a minimum wage of $17.65 per hour.
  • Medium sized companies (11 to 50 employees) must pay $16 per hour.
  • Small companies (less than 11 employees) must pay $15.50 per hour.

Tipped employees are also guaranteed earnings equaling no less than the Minimum Wage Rate per hour. Employers must pay at least $4 an hour to employees. Their pay combined with tips must add up to the minimum wage corresponding to the size of the company. Employers of tipped employees must submit a quarterly wage report within 30 days of each quarter to the Office of Human Rights.

Minimum wages in Montgomery County have steadily increased in past years to match the increasing Consumer Price Index (CPI) of the D.C. area. CPI measures the price level of the consumer goods and services an average household buys, mapping inflation and the cost of living. In 2024, CPI increased by 2.9% in the D.C. area.
