Progressive Maryland and Working Families Party endorsed Montgomery Council Vice President Will Jawando on Wednesday in his bid to become the next county executive.
Jawando faces Councilmembers Andrew Friedson and Evan Glass in his effort to succeed Marc Elrich, who is term limited and cannot seek re-election. Also running on the Democratic ticket are Mithun Banerjee and Celeste C. Iroha.
Both organizations that endorsed Jawando are known for their strong support of affordable housing and labor unions.
During the announcement, which was made at the Silver Spring Civic Center, Jawando said that if elected, he would prioritize affordable housing, a living wage, fully funded schools, the rights of organized labor and the cutting of red tape to bring more business and developers into the county.
Besides representatives from Progressive Maryland and Working Families Party, other supporters included members of the Enclave Tenant Association in White Oak and Rockville City Councilmember Izola Shaw.
