
A 13-year-old girl is in critical but stable condition after being struck by a car while crossing the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Evans Drive in Silver Spring. It happened around 6:17 pm. Sunday evening, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.
Officers and fire-rescue personnel responded to the scene and found the girl in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital after giving her on-site care.
The driver, who was in a 2004 Acura TL, remained on the scene and is cooperating with authorities. Police have not announced any charges, and no other injuries were reported. Investigators are still working to figure out exactly what led to the collision, including the speed of the vehicle and the traffic signals at the time, according to police.
As a result of the collision, Georgia Avenue was temporarily closed in both directions while the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the situation.
