Acclaimed actress, singer and game-show host Jane Lynch is heading back to North Bethesda on her annual “Swingin’ Little Christmas” tour, which kicks off Saturday, Nov. 29 at Strathmore.
“That’s a beautiful theater,” Lynch recently said on “The Tangle with Kyle Ridley” podcast. “We were there last year. It was one of our best shows.”
The five-time Emmy winner has been hitting the road for the holidays for nearly a decade, singing across the country with friends and fellow musicians Kate Flannery and Tim Davis. The trio performs tracks from their 2016 “Swingin’ Little Christmas” album.
“It’s a show about the music … with the comic stylings of Jane Lynch and Kate Flannery. And I always say, ‘Tim, just look handsome,’” joked Lynch.
Of course, Tim Davis is much more than a handsome face. He was the vocal arranger on “Glee,” which Lynch starred in from 2009 to 2015.
“He arranged over 600 songs on ‘Glee.’ The guy has an ear for harmony like you wouldn’t believe,” said Lynch. “We do these really tight three-part harmonies.”
Lynch met Kate Flannery, best known for playing ‘Meredith Palmer’ on “The Office,” in the late ‘80s.
“We bonded on our love of harmony, the late ‘50s, early ‘60s kind of music. We love that stuff,” said Lynch.
Lynch and Flannery moved to Los Angeles in the ‘90s and landed hit TV series in the early aughts. Coincidentally, both “Glee” and “The Office” were canceled in 2015. Soon thereafter, they decided to hit the recording studio and the road, and they haven’t stopped since.
The trio is backed by the Tony Guerrero Quintet, a successful jazz group out of Orange County, California. The setlist features holiday favorites including “Up on the Housetop,” “Jingle Bells” and “The First Noel.”
“It’s a little over an hour and no intermission or anything. It’s like a speeding train. We just go vroom and we don’t stop,” said Lynch. “Some of the stuff is toe-tapping, some of the stuff is beautiful and melodic and devotional.”
Lynch also discussed her illustrious career on “The Tangle with Kyle Ridley” podcast, including her massive IMDB filmography of more than 250 roles, reflections on the highs and lows of “Glee,” her work in Christopher Guest’s films, and success hosting “Hollywood Game Night” and “The Weakest Link.”
“A Swingin’ Little Christmas” tickets can be purchased on Strathmore’s website.
