A fire at a historic farmhouse in Poolesville caused $200,000 in damages. The likely cause was improperly-discarded smoking materials, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.
The smoking materials had smoldered for a couple of hours, according to Piringer. At one point there were about 60 firefighters on the scene responding to Sunday’s fire at Muldoon’s Farm on Beallsville Road. The blaze started in the first-floor office area of the farmhouse — which was built in 1897 according t0 Piringer.
The house was unoccupied at the time and discovered by the homeowner. The homeowner tried to fight the fire before MCFRS arrived and was evaluated for a minor injury.
