
Ervin Jeovany Alfaro Lopez
A Germantown man has been sentenced to serve 20 years in prison for sexually abusing young girls at a Derwood church where he was a teacher.
Ervin Jeovany Alfaro Lopez, 34, of Germantown was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison on Monday, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office. He will have to register as a sex offender for life.
According to police at the time of his arrest last year, the victims were 6-12 years old when the offenses occurred. Alfaro Lopez was 25-27 years old at the time.
Detectives started investigating in May 2023 after a victim reported being sexually abused by a teacher at a Derwood church in the 15700 block of Crabbs Branch Way, according to police. Following that complaint, three more victims came forward. They reported Alfaro Lopez sexually abused them at the church. Each offense happened between 2016-2018, according to police.
In February this year, he pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a minor and three counts of third-degree sex offense.
