Driver killed in one-car crash in Damascus early Wednesday

Updated Jan. 15 at 1:25 p.m.

Montgomery County Police officers identified the crash victim. Michael Patrick Fitzgerald, 28, of Germantown apparently drove his car off the road and into a tree.

When first responders arrived, they found Fitzgerald unconscious in the car.

An adult man died after a single-car collision early Wednesday morning on Bethesda Church Road in Damascus.

Around 1:20 a.m., Montgomery County police and fire and rescue service personnel responded to the area after the driver of a 2025 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross left the roadway and ran into a tree.

When first responders arrived, they found the driver with severe injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
