Wootton High School students and staff returned to class Tuesday — the day after a shooting inside the building injured a 16-year-old student.
Lynda Keita, whose daughter is an 11th grader at Wootton, recalled it was “very, very frightening” to hear there was a school shooting.
She said her daughter texted her immediately and confirmed she was okay and told her what was going on — “so that was very relieving for me.”
Tobenna, an eighth grade student at Robert Frost Middle School who only wanted to be identified by her first name, said his sister attends Wootton, “so I was really worried for her.”
“It just sounds very shocking and horrible,” said local resident David Gallagher, who was bicycling by the school. “Guns in the hands of teenagers is not a good plan.”
Parents also came to Wootton on Tuesday as the school system held two meetings for families to share information and resources.
“I’m just hoping to hear that they will start the metal detectors,” Keita said.
