County Sports Hall of Fame to Induct Class of 2026

Five legends from Montgomery County’s sports history will be honored in April when the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame inducts its Class of 2026.

The class is led by three-time All-Met basketball star Willie Allen of Richard Montgomery High School. The group also includes 11-year NFL veteran John Bunting, longtime official Bill Dixon, marathon runner Betty Holston Smith and basketball coach Warren Crutchfield round out the class of 2026.

Also being inducted is the first team to get the nod into the Hall of Fame. The Academy of the Holy Cross girls basketball team won 115 straight games from 1977-82.

The Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame includes athletes and sports figures recognized locally, nationally, and internationally. Swimmer Katie Ledecky, gymnast Dominique Dawes, former NFL star Shawn Springs, soccer’s Bruce Murray are among the many inducted in to the Hall of Fame.

The April 26 induction ceremony is free and open to the public at the Silver Spring Civic Building.
