Parents spoke out Thursday after the school board voted to relocate Rockville’s Wootton High School to the new Crown High in Gaithersburg.
Following the official decision for the controversial plan, some parents who want Wootton to keep its current location say they are not done fighting. Now, they have the Baltimore-based law firm Silverman Thompson to back them up in their legal fight around claims related to procedural issues from MCPS.
The school system states there was extensive community engagement despite a delayed announcement of the Wootton proposal in December. Superintendent Thomas Taylor’s now-approved boundary plan will relocate students and staff from the aging campus at Wootton — which has issues like HVAC problems — to Gaithersburg’s new Crown High School, which MCPS calls a “state-of-the-art facility.”
