The County Board of Elections held a canvass on Wednesday to handle outstanding mail-in and provisional ballots. Two outstanding races shifted during the continuing count.
In the outstanding At-Large Councilmember race between former School Board President Karla Silvestre and immigration attorney Fatmata Barrie, Silvestre has widened her lead. Currently she has 43,379 votes compared to Barrie’s 42,429 for a 950-vote lead.
In the District 3 race for County Council, Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman doubled his lead over Rockville City Councilmember Izola Shaw. The current totals show Ashman with 6,995 votes to Shaw’s 6,591 for a difference of 404.
MCM checked in with both leading candidates and they told us they await the final results from the elections board before announcing victory. Ashman is a member of Montgomery Community Media’s Board of Directors.
Canvassing will resume after the holiday on Monday, July 6 and continue until all the votes are counted.
