Gov. Wes Moore was chosen to chair the National Governors Association over the weekend at their summer meeting. The newly elected leadership will set the agenda for the 55-member group over the next calendar year.
At the meeting, Moore launched his signature initiative among the governors, “Service United,” with $10 million in philanthropic support to kickstart its efforts. Moore will also shepherd the NGA’s Campaign for America, encouraging work across party lines to strengthen and restore civic bonds.
Here’s what Moore said about his vision for the association:
“NGA is stepping into a new era – where governors have a strong voice in the national debate, states have a real seat at the table, and we work across party lines to deliver practical solutions for all Americans. I am honored to work with the new executive committee as chair, and I am confident that when we put our heads together, we will show that government still works, bipartisan leaders still deliver, and service will save us.”
