Ellsworth Drive in downtown Silver Spring was just one of dozens of places in Montgomery County that took part in National Night Out, the annual nationwide event when local police officers come out to neighborhoods to connect with families and kids.
And as youth crimes continue to get attention, officers say it is important for police to engage with kids in a fun way outside of their role in law enforcement and build a sense of community.
