Inspector General for Montgomery County Megan Davey Limarzi announced the results of an investigation into an employee at the Office of the County Attorney on Monday. The unnamed employee was accused of several violations in the use of a county-owned vehicle.
According to the report, the employee stood accused of using the vehicle for personal trips and taking the vehicle home. In addition, it was alleged the employee asked a Montgomery County police officer to conceal a possible DUI charge after the vehicle was involved in a collision.
In addition, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) investigated charges of using a popular messaging app to communicate county business, thus avoiding evidence obtainable by the Maryland Public Information Act (MPIA).
The employee, who has since resigned, was found guilty of misuse of a county-owned vehicle, taking the vehicle home and failure to document the vehicle accident. The charges related to an attempt to cover up the collision and the allegations about the MPIA work-around were not substantiated.
The OIG forwarded the report on these violations to the County’s Chief Administrative Office and the County Attorney’s Office for any further actions they may find appropriate.
