
Harvey Zeigler, a local civil rights activist and World War II veteran, died on April 6 at the age of 102. Zeigler was a member of the Montgomery County Human Rights Hall of Fame and played a key role in putting a stop to job discrimination in the county, according to the a statement written by Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich.
Elrich’s statement also mentioned how Zeigler was also a recipient for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award and African American Living Legend Award.

The NAACP leader and member of the Montgomery County branch celebrated his 102nd birthday on March 4. Â Zeigler went to high school in the county and lived in the area for years as a historian, mentor and inspiration to many, Elrich said.
