Aldridge Brings ‘The Basketball 100’ to Gaithersburg Book Festival

NBA expert and award-winning journalist David Aldridge will present his latest book, The Basketball 100, at the Gaithersburg Book Festival on Saturday, May 17. He joins more than 130 featured authors at the annual literary event.

The Basketball 100 profiles the top 100 players in NBA history with vivid, in-depth portraits. Edited by Aldridge and fellow analyst John Hollinger—creator of the Player Efficiency Rating (PER)—the book also tackles key debates: Do titles outweigh stats or the “eye test”? Could legends like Wilt and Russell thrive today? Who’s the GOAT—Jordan or LeBron? Hollinger even introduces a new metric: GOAT Points.

Aldridge is a senior columnist for The Athletic, covering the NBA and D.C. sports. A 30-year veteran of print, broadcast, and digital media, he previously worked for Turner Sports, ESPN, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Washington Post. In 2016, he received the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Basketball Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions to the game.

Gaithersburg Mayor and Book Festival founder Jud Ashman offers a brief review of The Basketball 100.

Aldridge will speak about The Basketball 100 at 3:15 p.m. in the Frederick Douglass Pavilion, followed by a book signing at 4:15 p.m.

The Gaithersburg Book Festival runs Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bohrer Park, 506 S. Frederick Avenue. Admission and parking are free.
