One day a year in Beallsville, families can come together to enjoy an outdoor activity, albeit a slightly unorthodox one. They just might get a little muddy in the process.

MudFest, a highly anticipated annual event held at Woodstock Equestrian Park in Beallsville, is set to return on Saturday, June 17. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Families of all ages will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of mud-related activities. Whether it’s crafting mud pies or gleefully diving headfirst into the slippery clay, the event has garnered immense popularity over the years.

Tickets are $20 per car, and are both available online and can be purchased on the day of the event. The celebration caters to both parents and children, providing a chance for all ages to get involved.

“People love it because it’s all about play,” park naturalist Katrina Fauss said. “There’s permission to have fun and connect to nature and our childhoods. I also think it’s about the scale of the mud slides and piles. There’s just something fun and silly about it all.”

Park staff prepare for the event by purchasing dirt that has been screened for sharp rocks, which could be dangerous to participants. A maintenance team then arranges the mud into different areas, before visitors are allowed to jump in.

The event will occur on Saturday weather-permitting, as only severe weather conditions would force a delay. If the event is forced to be postponed, a rain date is scheduled for Sunday, June 18.
