At Filing Deadline, Here Are the School Board Candidates

Natalie Zimmerman of Rockville filed to run late Friday night, the fifth candidate in District 2.

Friday at 9 p.m. was the last chance to register as a candidate in the upcoming Montgomery County School Board race.

Board of Education Members Rebecca Smondrowski (District 2), Lynne Harris (at large) and Shebra Evans (District 4) are up for re-election and all have chosen to seek reelection.

Each of the incumbents face opposition in the primary election, which is set for May 14.

Besides Harris, the candidates for the at-large seat include Sharif Hidayat of Laytonsville, Melissa Kim of Bethesda, Fitzgerald Mofar of Brookeville, Rita Montoya of Silver Spring and Jonathan Long of Germantown.

Smondrowski will face Aby Thioye of Derwood, Ricky Fai Mui of Rockville and Brenda Diaz of Gaithersburg.

Besides Evans, Laura Stewart and Bethany Mandel, both of Silver Spring, are running in the 4th District.

BOE members all run on a nonpartisan ticket.

No one on the county council is up for re-election.
