Rescue crews recovered the body of a man Thursday around 11:30 a.m., not far from where he went missing in the Potomac River Tuesday, according to MCFRS Assistant Chief David Pazos.
The man, believed to be about 25, was last seen just south of Sandy Landing, according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. Authorities have not yet released his identity.
On Tuesday, fire and rescue crews received a report of two people in the water. One swimmer made it out of the water on his own, but the other was missing. Rescue crews used sonar and below-surface camera imagery to locate his body.
This is the third Potomac River death in recent weeks. Earlier this month, another swimmer died in the river. About six weeks ago rescue crews recovered the body of a 20-year-old from the water.
