Both Incumbent Councilmembers Reelected in Gaithersburg

According to unofficial results released by the City of Gaithersburg at 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, incumbent Councilmembers Neil Harris and Robert Wu won reelection.

They will be joined by Yamil Hernández, who fills the open seat vacated by Ryan Spiegel when he became a state delegate.

Wu received the most votes. He earned 2,932 votes, which was 24.84% of the total. Harris followed closely behind with 2,900 votes, which was 24.57% of the total votes cast.

Hernández came in third out of six candidates and received 2,189 votes or 18.55% of the vote.

About 4,500 residents cast votes Tuesday, which Wu called “a high turnout.”

Soon after learning he was reelected, Wu told MCM, “We really have a government that is working on behalf of the people,” which is why he thought the two incumbents had won.

He was pleased with his victory, noting, “You never feel totally comfortable until you see the results.”

The unsuccessful candidates were Daniel Lukomsky, Shanika Whitehurst and Omodamola Williams.
