Calabash Arts Market Showcases West African Culture, Local Artists

As part of its ongoing Windows Series, Strathmore held its Calabash Arts Market Sunday, dedicated to West African cultural arts.

Anyone with tickets to see kora player Sona Jobarteh were able to peruse the market and see the locally-crafted products on display.

The Windows Series, a collection of performances that “open up a window into the perspectives of people from different places, cultures, and eras,” according to their website, features pre- and post-show activities to supplement each concert.

The Market, designed in collaboration with cultural convener Dera Tompkins, spotlighted over a dozen local vendors.

Tickets are available for the next Windows performance on Friday, April 26 featuring Terence Blanchard with The E-collective, Turtle Island Quartet & Andrew F. Scott. Attend a pre-concert discussion on the journey of Black classical musicians.
