A new six-week summer camp offers both fun and life-changing support to children experiencing homelessness in Montgomery County. Camp Greentree is designed specifically for youth with complex behavioral needs—combining the excitement of a traditional camp with therapeutic mental health services.
Camp Greentree supports 88 children ages 5 to 12, all referred by MCPS.
This program is a partnership between JSSA and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), with MCPS serving as the key referral partner. JSSA provides the staffing and programming, while the camp is funded through grants from MCPS, the McKinney-Vento National Center for Homeless Education, and the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission (CHRC).
According to MCPS, 1,500 students in the district are currently experiencing homelessness as defined by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, highlighting the urgent need for programs like Camp Greentree.
