Chef Andrés Featured on Rep. Raskin’s 200th Local Hero Podcast

U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-8) celebrated his 200th episode of his Local Hero podcast with an interview with Bethesda chef José Andrés, founder of World Central Kitchen.

Raskin’s weekly interviews have featured residents in his district who passionately help others.

“My 200th Local Hero, Chef José Andrés, exemplifies the spirit of service that makes Maryland’s Eighth District special,” he said.

“Harnessing the unifying and transformational power of food to address global crises, Chef Andrés and his organization World Central Kitchen have delivered hundreds of millions of meals to people across the globe—feeding people facing natural disasters like wildfires and earthquakes, reeling from the violence and devastation of war, and even while exercising their right to vote across America,” Raskin said.

“I’m so happy to name Chef Andrés as my 200th Local Hero in Maryland’s Eighth district. I’m proud that this program, with its roots in honoring medical workers in the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, now features people making a mark in our community, in Maryland and in America in so many dazzling and different ways.”

Raskin has interview frontline workers, emergency responders, and neighbors helping neighbors in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also has featured educators, community organizers, businesspeople, artists, volunteers, changemakers, activists, local elected leaders and more.
