Civil Rights Activist Turns Attention to Documenting Black Struggles, Successes

After working so Blacks could register to vote and be welcome in former Whites-only areas, civil rights activist and Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) member Judy Richardson has turned her attention to producing documentaries.

The Silver Spring resident helped work on what was supposed to be a one-hour documentary that turned into the award-winning 14-hour Eyes on the Prize film about the civil rights movement in the 20th Century.

Her producing and directing career continues to blossom. She recently finished a documentary on Frederick Douglas for the National Park Service.
