Community Science Festival to be Held at Rock Creek Regional Park

Montgomery Parks is hosting a Community Science Festival at Lake Needwood in Rock Creek Regional Park on April 29.

The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees can learn about the flora and fauna in their neighborhood through interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities. There is an opportunity to become citizen scientists and take part in the City Nature Challenge.

There will be a series of guided hikes. Montgomery Bird Club is leading a Bird Hike at 10:30 a.m. Maryland Master Naturalists will lead a Tree Hike at 11:15 a.m., a Weeds and Wildflowers Hike at 12:30 p.m. and a Wildflower Hike at 1:15 p.m.

Parks scientists will lead a presentation on biological monitoring with fish in Rock Creek. Additionally, a Parks ecologist will present on rare habitats with local parks. There will be an interactive demonstration on aquatic macroinvertebrates.
