National Weather Service Confirms Tornado in Poolesville

The National Weather Service (NWS) for the Baltimore/Washington region confirmed a tornado came through Poolesville on Saturday.

“National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington has confirmed an EF-0 tornado that tracked through Poolesville, MD this afternoon,” the agency wrote Saturday night on Twitter.

According to NWS, an EF-0 tornado has estimated wind speeds at 65-85 mph and is the lowest rating on a scale of EF-0 to EF-5.

The tornado occurred from 1:58-1:59 p.m. Saturday, according to NWS, with estimated peak winds at 75 mph. The path length was 100 yards and the maximum width was 25 yards. A few trees were snapped and uprooted and large tree branches were broken. There were no injuries or deaths.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect in Montgomery County until 2:45 p.m. Saturday.
