Council Signals Support for One Fair Wage

Everyone deserves a living wage for their work. But people you tip like waitresses, drivers and hotel personnel often earn a sub minimum wage. So far seven states have passed laws to raise their paychecks to the minimum wage and beyond. On Monday, members of the County Council showed up to support the One Fair Wage program here in Maryland at Bethesda’s Sala Thai restaurant.

Tipping in America actually has its roots in the post-Civil War era when workers were hired for next to no salary and made to depend on the generosity of those they served and not their employers for a living. Many of the staffing problems the restaurant business faces today stem from these long overdue injustices.
