Councilmember Kristin Mink ‘Grabbed’ by ICE Agents

Montgomery County Councilmember Kristin Mink was grabbed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents Monday morning while recording video of their activity in Prince George’s County.

The incident happened at 7:25 a.m. and was recorded by the councilmember and posted on social media shortly thereafter.

Mink said she witnessed ICE agents “ripping loved ones from their families across Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties” and when she moved to catch the act on film they attempted to “get in my face, pull me by the arm, and attempt to grab my phone.”

The councilmember can be seen in the video tussling with ICE agents in a parking lot.

MCM reached out to Mink directly to get an update.

“I’m personally doing fine. My concern is with the person who was being confined [and] the mental anguish of the families,” said Mink exclusively to MCM.

“This is not the first time that I have seen ICE arrest somebody. It is upsetting every time.”

For those in the community who haven’t seen the ICE activity in person, but have only seen or heard about it through second-hand accounts, Mink said there is a very real difference.

“It’s certainly different to see it up close. Someone—not just their day, but their whole life to just change on a dime like that and to not be able to do anything about it—It’s horrible,” said Mink.

When asked if she has reached out to the Trump administration or US government officials at ICE to vocalize her concerns, Mink said she has not.

“I don’t think it’s going to make an impact, to be frank. Most of my focus is on the community.”

At the time of the interview with MCM, Mink said she was on her way to be with a family in her constituency who is preparing to leave the country  because the father was recently deported.

“It’s devastating for the whole community,” she said.
