County Announces Expanded Recycling Programs

On America Recycles Day, Montgomery County announced expanded recycling programs with more items like mattresses now accepted.

The county began accepting additional items for recycling recently – mattresses and box springs, working medical equipment and more electronic items.

So far in 2023, the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection has collected:

  • 211 tons of mattresses and box springs
  • 907 tons of electronics
  • 17 tons of used medical equipment

With bicycles and construction materials also included in the current list for recycling, Director Jon Monger encourages residents looking for a bicycle to visit the Shady Grove Center. And residents can also check out the shed for available construction materials for home projects.

Items can be brought to the Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center at 16101 Frederick Road in Derwood.
