County Leaders Explain How Data Is Used To Drive Re-Opening Decisions

During his weekly virtual media briefing on Wednesday, County Executive Marc Elrich gave updates regarding current COVID-19 data.

Key topics included new case totals, how the county data dashboard helps determine re-opening decisions, a shift in where cases are originating from in local jurisdictions, and an increase in testing capacity across the county.

Montgomery County Health Officer Dr. Travis Gayles says the county has made significant strides to get to where they currently are in terms of a decrease in daily case averages. Dr. Gayles added that data helps shape re-opening decisions like the recent MCPS Fall 2020 recovery plan announcement. 

“We’re continuing to look at the data dashboard that is open and accessible to the public…in particular as it relates to young folks as MCPS announced this week that they will be all virtual during the fall,” said Dr. Gayles.
