Ten cats and three dogs from Florida arrived at the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) on Oct. 6 and are now available for adoption.

Montgomery County’s Office of Animal Services took in the animals to provide relief for shelters in Florida affected by Hurricane Ian.

The Office of Animal Services accepted a request for aid made through Best Friends, a national organization that looks to reduce the number of animals killed in shelters. Though the animals came from various Florida shelters, most of them came from Manatee County, which is located south of Tampa.

After arriving at the shelter, MCASAC staff evaluated the animals’ health and behavior before deeming them ready for adoption.

Residents interested in adopting pets from the county shelter can start the adoption process online or in-person.

The shelter is open weekly at these times:

  • 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
  • 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays

MCASAC is located at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood.
