County’s Commission for Women to Host Self-Defense Classes

The Montgomery County Commission for Women is offering a series of four in-person self defense seminars exclusively for women in March and April. These S.A.F.E (Self-defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange) sessions are two hours long and are intended for women of all ages and abilities.

Each seminar is taught by Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) -certified instructors and costs $12 per person. Girls ages 12-15 are welcome to join, but must be accompanied by an adult woman who is also registered for the class.

Attendees will be trained on crime awareness and prevention and given a 13-piece student folio with information on reducing the risk of and escaping violence. They will also learn physical self-defense training.

The seminars will be held at four different Montgomery County Recreation Center locations from Mar. 18 to Apr. 5. Pre-registration is required and a minimum of 10 participants is needed for each class.
